What Are Dental Veneers?
Porcelain veneers do not actually correct dental imperfections – they cover them! In other words, rather than fixing the tooth, veneers cover up the issue with a new layer of beautiful porcelain. Because it is so simple, this treatment can be used to fix any number of issues affecting cosmetically flawed but otherwise healthy teeth, including:
- Noticeable chips
- Odd texture in the front, like visible pits and grooves
- Severe stains or discoloration that have not responded to teeth whitening treatments
- Slight gaps, for an “instant braces” effect
- Misshapen teeth
- Pointed or oddly shaped teeth
The Process of Getting Veneers
Once we confirm you’re a candidate for veneers, it will be time to start transforming your smile! To place porcelain veneers, we will most likely have to remove a sliver of your natural tooth enamel – so you will always need something covering up the teeth once you have had this treatment performed. After this step is complete, we will take impressions and send them over to the dental lab with your treatment plan. As they work on your permanent veneers, we will provide you with a temporary set, allowing you to “test drive” your new smile.
When your permanent veneers are delivered to our office, we’ll schedule your final appointment. At this visit, we will remove your temporary veneers, secure your final ones in place, and make any final adjustments that are necessary.
The Benefits of Veneers
Porcelain offers a number of advantages in cosmetic dentistry. It is a sturdy material that looks just like tooth enamel, for the most visually pleasing result possible. Plus, because porcelain is highly resistant to stains, you will not have to worry about your veneers taking on the shade of what you eat and drink. In fact, many people consider porcelain veneers to be like a permanent teeth whitening treatment! It’s also worth noting that they are highly customizable and can completely transform imperfect teeth over the course of just two visits to our office.
During a cosmetic consultation, Dr. Hamm will evaluate the health of your smile and discuss your goals to determine the ideal treatment for you. If you are in good oral health and have a budget to support veneers, this is likely an excellent option for your smile!
